The War Game
Made for the BBC, Watkins unnervingly illustrates an imaginary event: a small nuclear attack on an airfield outside Kent, England. The television news-style approach to The War Game, with its pseudo-reality narrative, pushed the limits of television and documentary to new boundaries. Watkins attained a firm grasp on this style, creating a realistic view of the firestorms, riots and chaos that would ravage the land post-detonation. The disturbing images in The War Game act as a constant reminder to the nuclear atrocities of the past and as a warning to the future.
Reviews
“A horrifically realistic documentary surpassing all boundaries documentaries have reached past and present. An expert piece of propaganda film, finished to the last detail.”
Sam Fox, Guardian
