Night and Fog (Nuit et Brouillard)
Through its visionary combination of harrowing archival images and colour footage of the abandoned concentration camp, Night and Fog cemented Resnais' status as a gifted director of documentary. Made with extraordinary sensitivity and intelligence, Night and Fog is filled with deep and articulate sorrow, yet it is buoyed by an unerringly powerful humanist intent.
As with his feature films of the new wave, Resnais' documentary stands as an example of stunningly emotional cinematic poetry.
Reviews
“It's quite plain to see why François Truffautonce called Night and Fog the greatest film ever made, especially considering its poetic impact”
