Metropolis
Featuring the World Premiere of new score composed and performed LIVE by The New Pollutants accompanied by Astrid Pill(vocals) and Zoe Barry(cello).
This newly-restored print of the ground breaking and timeless sci-fi classic will be accompanied by the World Premiere of a contemporary score from acclaimed local electronic music duo The New Pollutants. Metropolis, with its vision of a utopian futuristic city 100 years in the future run by workers enslaved underground, maintains its relevance today as we fast approach 2026, when the film takes place. At this time, the populace is divided between workers who must live in the dark underground and the rich who enjoy a futuristic city of splendour. The tense balance of these two societies is realised through images that are among the most famous of the twentith century, many of which presage such sci-fi landmarks as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner.

About the Director
Fritz Lang
Fritz Lang (1890-1976) is regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the twentith century. Born in Vienna, Lang began his film career at the famous Ufa Studios in Berlin after Wold War One. His silent works (regarded by many as his greatest period) feature a strong visual design, allegorical and fantastical plotlines and were often epic in scale. In 1933 Lang fled the newly installed Nazi regime for Paris and then later to the United States, where he directed numerous noirs and westerns. He returned to Germany to make three last films in the late 1950s.
