Merce Cunningham: A Lifetime of Dance

Charles Atlas, USA 2001
Photo from Merce Cunningham: A Lifetime of Dance

Through interviews with dancers, collaborators, scholars and Merce himself, Charles Atlas explores Cunningham's dancing career from his earliest days at the Cornish school up to the present, and affirms his status as one of the greats of twentieth century avant-garde dance and movement. There is excellent archival footage of his earlier dances as well as of his newer works, such as Biped, that combine computer technology with dancing.

Reviews

“Merce Cunningham embodies a unique dance style as well as an unusual history of contemporary dance.”
