A lecture by Adelaide Thinker in Residence, Peter Wintonick. In the 21st century, there are as many definitions of what fiction film is, or what documentary means, as there are practitioners and audiences. In this lecture, eminent documentary maker and 2005 Thinker in Residence Peter Wintonick looks at some key examples of what we will call the Hybrid film: trans-genre films which confound, confuse and fuse, films which use blending strategies, grabbing from drama, non-fiction, faction, animation, comedy, and the experimental. Fictive docs, and hybrid-drama. Mocuments and Documents. Parody and ParaDocs. Digidocs and Docudrama. Reality-based real-i-teevee.
