Human Touch marks a culmination in Paul Cox's career in which he reworks the themes which have absorbed him: the obsessiveness of the artist, the sensual pleasures of art and sex, and the inextricable relation between them. The story returns us to Cox's 1983 masterwork Man of Flowers. Edward is a wealthy connoisseur who likes taking nude photographs. He becomes obsessed with Anna, a young singer who is having troubles in her relationship with her boyfriend. Cox's vision is as uncompromising as it is confronting. He insists that his characters embrace all the possibilities of life and of art. With more than 20 feature films to his credit over the past 30 years, Paul Cox is Australia's most internationally renowned filmmaker. Given that Human Touch is substantially shot and produced in Adelaide, we're proud to claim the Dutch-born director as one of our own.

Director Paul Cox and Producer Mark Patterson will be guests of the Festival

Reviews

“Cox never reveals where his sympathies lie, but instead builds a powerful case for our need to be touched, even if it's to deliver a well-deserved punch in the eye”

Kim Linekin, Eye Weekly
