High Tension (Haute tension)
It's relentless, blood-pumping action for every minute of this horror-slasher film that is reminiscent of the '80s classic horrors. The story is the basic serial killer attacks a family in an isolated cottage and kidnaps a teenage girl- type plot, but it doesn't veer off into ironic jokes or teen comedy. The frantic pace and claustrophobic atmosphere make this a real knuckle-clencher right up to the insanely over the top climax. Five buckets of blood.
Screenings commence at 11.00pm, Saturday 19 February at the Mercury Cinema. No entry after midnight. Sleepover tickets: $15 for 3 films. Beer, wine, warm drinks and comfort food available throughout the night. BYO Sleeping bag.
Reviews
“An unabashed, unironic homage to Hollywood slasher films of the 1970s, particularly The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Halloween.”
Philip French, The Guardian
“Die-hard horror aficionados will probably consider this a return to a purist slasher-movie ethos.”
Wendy Ide, Times Online
“Designed to terrify not entertain, director Alexander Aja certainly proves his love of the genre.”
Jamie Russell, BBC i films
