Enter the Dragon
1973. Bad times for Hollywood but an opportunity for a new pop cinema to emerge. Bruce Lee, the big boss himself, shoots across the horizon, stripped to the waist, prancing and whooping, with a delicious trickle of blood on his chest. Before he plummeted to earth, he left us with this one great reminder of the possibilities for popular Asian cinema working with Hollywood. Who else to score the film but Lalo Schifrin, the man known for counterposing cool jazz influences with hot action? His achievement here is a considerable one as it bears the brunt of integrating east and west within the stylistic system of the film. Schifrin's enduring success was shown three decades later when he was chosen to score Jackie Chan's Rush Hour as a new dragon made his entry. If you're in the foyer and you hear a mobile ringing with the main theme from this film, that'll be me.
Don't miss the chance to hear Lalo Schifrin in Coversation with James Morrison.

“It remains a remarkable film for the intensity of Lee's performance and his lightning-quick martial arts skill.”
