Blue Collar White Christmas (Nede På Jorden)
Since 1960 the Viking lifeboat factory has been a vital part of the town of Esbjerg, Denmark – long term colleagues have forged close friendships and the workplace is a community unto itself. Just before Christmas 2001 the workers are notified that Viking has acquired a factory in Bangkok and will be outsourcing much of their production. Inevitably there will be job losses. This quietly moving observational film follows two teams within the factory as they await their collective and individual fates.
Max Kestner will be a guest of the Festival
Reviews
“Blue Collar White Christmas is a series of humorous everyday chronicles, dealing with the fear of change as well as the necessity of change”
Danish Film Institute
“An extraordinary documentary, shot and edited like a Scandi realist drama, Blue Collar White Christmas blurs the genre's margins in striking ways.”
Derek Elley, Variety
